Classic cars take centre stage at Gulf forecourts

Forecourts across the UK have opened their sites to an array of iconic classic cars as part of Gulf’s Big Journey, helping us celebrate the UK’s rich motoring heritage.

Visitors from the south of England up to Scotland headed to Gulf sites in Haywards Heath, Tewkesbury, Stoke, Durham and Glasgow to see the elegant cars on display, from TRs and Stags, to Morris Minors and MGs.

The car clubs pulled out all the stops to show off their rare motors, including an MG TC from 1949, which David Hook, member of Durham MG and Classic Car Club, has owned for almost 60 years. There was also a rare blue model TR250, affectionately named Bluebell and only made for the American market, which Tony Ralph, member of TR Stoke Group, brought along.

Niall added: “We’d like to thank all the classic car enthusiasts who joined us on the day. We loved hearing all the exciting stories about the different cars and their owners. While there’s an ongoing focus on electric vehicles and creating a more sustainable future for the motoring industry, these classic cars remind us of where it all started!”

Niall Taylor, Senior Marketing Manager, is proud of the success of Gulf’s Big Journey. “Gulf is such an iconic brand with a rich legacy, so a classic car event was the perfect way to celebrate our history. It was fantastic to see lots of different generations enjoying the day, with grandparents reminiscing about their first cars and children enthralled by the iconic designs.”

The classic car clubs that took part were Glasgow Moggies, Durham MG and Classic Car Club, Cotswold Classic Car Club, TR Stoke Group and West Sussex Stag Owners Club.

Tony Ralph, from TR Stoke Group, who lives in Hanford, said: “Our TR Stoke group enjoyed a brilliant drive out, heading to Matlock for lunch via the scenic Ashbourne route, before looping back over the Peaks through Onecote.

“We set off from the Gulf Lichfield Road Station in Hanley, as part of Gulf’s Big Journey campaign – and what a perfect morning meet-up it was! Great atmosphere, plenty of interest from the public, and some friendly chats before we hit the road.

“A huge thanks to Gulf for making the Big Journey come to life. Another memorable outing with stunning roads, great company, and of course, plenty of TR smiles.”

Tom Buckley, owner of Gulf Wivelsfield Service Station in West Sussex, hailed our community event a huge success. He said: “We had a fantastic day and were thrilled that so many car enthusiasts came down to the forecourt to see the cars and some even brought along their classic cars too.

The weather was perfect for it! People were taking photos, asking questions about the cars and generally getting excited about sharing in their passion for the vehicles. It was lovely to see, and we are thrilled to be able to provide a unique event like this for the community.”

He added: “We’d like to say thank you to the West Sussex Stag Owners Club for bringing their incredible vehicles to our open day. These cars are part of our history and it’s thanks to clubs such as these that we can still see them on our roads.”

Niall Taylor added: “It’s been exciting to give back to Gulf UK’s independent and company-owned sites with this unique campaign. Both Gulf’s Big Journey and the giveaways we’re running as part of the release of the new film, A Big, Bold, Beautiful Journey. We’ve also hosted a competition for the best dressed site, with the winner attending a private screening of A Big, Bold, Beautiful Journey at Sony Entertainment’s London HQ.”
